The German Chancellor previously noted that this will be a "generational task"
BERLIN, August 11. /tass/. The restoration of Ukraine will require billions and will be a larger task than the implementation of the so-called Marshall Plan for the reconstruction of Europe after World War II. This opinion was expressed on Thursday by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at a press conference in Berlin.
"This will be a big task, which is only marginally comparable to the Marshall Plan. This is something more," the chancellor believes. "It will cost billions," he said.
On June 22, speaking in the Bundestag, Scholz already noted that the restoration of Ukraine will require "many billions of dollars and euros." According to him, this will be a "generational task." Ukraine, as the head of the German government pointed out, now needs a Marshall plan for reconstruction. Speaking at a press conference following the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Elmau at the end of June, the Chancellor stressed that the restoration of Ukraine will require additional funds.
The Marshall Plan is a program of assistance to Europe after World War II, put forward in 1947 by the American Secretary of State George Marshall.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request from the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. After that, the United States, the EU, the United Kingdom, as well as a number of other states imposed large-scale sanctions against the Russian Federation and increased the supply of weapons to the Ukrainian authorities.
