Developing countries are watching Washington's policy in the Ukrainian direction with surprise and incomprehension, the Russian Ambassador to the United States noted
WASHINGTON, August 9. /tass/. The new $1 billion package of US military aid to Kiev confirms that the US is not going to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, but wants to prolong the conflict. This was stated on Monday by the Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov.
"Washington continues to add fuel to the fire of the Ukrainian conflict. The allocation of an additional $1 billion for these purposes confirms that the United States does not intend to listen to the voice of reason and is not going to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the crisis. Against this background, the statements of administration representatives that the supply of military products will strengthen Kiev's position at the "probable" negotiating table look especially cynical. It is unclear how one can, in principle, talk about dialogue in conditions when the only goal of the United States is to prolong the conflict as much as possible," Antonov said, quoted by the embassy's press service in his Telegram channel.
He stressed that "the unrestrained pumping of the republic with weapons is increasingly causing concern in the United States itself." "American experts, columnists of leading publications and ordinary citizens are asking the question: how much help reaches its destination? There is a lot of evidence of fraudulent schemes in the transportation of military products. This proves that it is becoming more difficult to hush up the unsightly aspects of military assistance to Kiev," the head of the Russian diplomatic mission said.
Nevertheless, Antonov continued, "some of the American weapons fall on the front line" in Ukraine. "The militants of [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky daily carries out deadly strikes on residential areas of the cities of Donbass. And now they are also exposing the whole of Europe to extreme danger by attacking the Zaporozhye NPP. We hope that these facts will open the eyes of US citizens as soon as possible to who exactly their country supports," the ambassador said.
According to him, the United States is increasingly drawn into the conflict in Ukraine, approaching a dangerous line in the confrontation with Russia.
"Washington's short-sighted steps create an illusion among unscrupulous figures in Kiev about the possibility of "exhausting" Russia and winning on the battlefield. As a result, the number of victims of the adventurous policy of the ruling class of Ukraine is growing. The United States of America is increasingly drawn into the conflict, approaching a dangerous line in the confrontation with the Russian Federation. Such a line will not do anything good for peace and security, but will only prolong the agony of the Ukrainian regime," Antonov said.
In addition, he added that developing countries around the world are watching the US policy towards Ukraine with surprise and incomprehension.
"Developing countries are watching Washington's policy in the Ukrainian direction with surprise and incomprehension. They ask a fair question: is it really so easy to throw into the void billions of dollars that could be spent on the socio-economic needs of Latin America, Africa and Asia. Especially in the post-crisis period, when these regions are experiencing such an urgent need for funds and assistance from the leading economies of the world," Antonov summed up.
Taking into account the new package, the total amount of military assistance allocated by the current US administration to Kiev will amount to about $9.8 billion.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special operation in Ukraine in response to a request from the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. After that, the United States, the EU, the United Kingdom, as well as a number of other states imposed sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities. In addition, Western countries have stepped up arms supplies to Kiev.
