According to the ex-President of the Republic Vaclav Klaus, the West is taking a unilateral approach to the situation in Ukraine
PRAGUE, August 7. /tass/. The continuation by Western countries of arms supplies to the Kiev authorities and the tightening of anti-Russian sanctions will not lead to a settlement of the situation in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the ex-President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus in the comment "Unilateral propaganda around Ukraine is the way to unfreedom", published on Sunday in the newspaper Mladá fronta DNES.
"The absence of negotiations, the continuation of supplies [by Western countries to the Kiev authorities] of increasingly high-quality weapons and the tightening of sanctions [against the Russian Federation], which to a large extent have a boomerang effect, are not the way to resolve [the conflict in Ukraine]," Klaus said.
According to him, the West is taking a unilateral approach to the situation in Ukraine. The consequence of this is unilateral propaganda in the Western media, directed, among other things, against those who hold opinions other than the official one.
"There is no serious discussion about the arguments about Russia's fears in connection with the encirclement of its territory by NATO member states. <...> Arguments are not [considered] about the growing hostility of Ukraine towards Russia and towards [the Russian [national] minority living on its territory, which happened during the entire time from the "orange revolution" and Maidan until February of this year. Arguments about the desire of the United States after the failures in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria to achieve some kind of geostrategic success and earn the reputation and position of a demiurge (a universe-creating character introduced into philosophy by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato - approx. TASS) in the modern world," Klaus said.
Klaus believes that Ukraine over the past 30 years has proved unable to create a government that expresses the interests of its heterogeneous ethnic composition of the population, and it has failed to implement the necessary political and economic transformations. "We need to say more decisively that Ukraine did not take the Minsk agreements seriously," the former Czech president recalled.
The confrontation between Russia and the West
The conflict in Ukraine, according to him, is a confrontation between Russia and the West. The world order that had developed by the end of the twentieth century has been undermined for a long time, in particular, by the "eternal conviction of Americans about the right of the United States to build the world in its own image."
"Any criticism of the West today is demonstrated as <...> even the support of [Russian President Vladimir Putin]. Any calls for negotiations [by the parties to the conflict in Ukraine] are negatively assessed. They are interpreted as accepting the status quo on the battlefield, as deliberately creating a disadvantage for Ukraine and a form of covert support for Russia," Klaus said.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in connection with the request of the leaders of the republics of Donbass for help. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, and the goals are demilitarization and denazification of the country. The West, in response to Russia's decision, began to gradually impose numerous large-scale sanctions against it.
