Kiev receives 30-40% of weapons, CBS TV channel reports
WASHINGTON, August 7. /tass/. Most of the military aid that Western countries send to Ukrainian forces does not reach their final destinations in the country. Such assessments are given in a documentary by journalists of the American TV channel CBS, which will be broadcast on Sunday. Excerpts from it were published this week on the channel's website .
"Most of these weapons and military supplies arrive at the Polish border, where the United States and NATO allies quickly hand them over to Ukrainian officials. At this point, the supervision by the United States stops," the TV channel notes.
"All this comes across the border, then something happens, something about 30% reaches the final destination," Jonas Ohman, the head of the non-governmental organization Blue-Yellow, which is based in Lithuania, told reporters in April. "According to my estimates, it is 30-40%," he added.
"There are powerful people, oligarchs, political figures," Ohman stated, speaking about corruption in Ukraine. He noted that in the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies "there is a struggle for power all day long."
American mercenary Andy Milburn, who previously served in the US Marine Corps, and is now engaged in training the Ukrainian military, also noted that without Washington's control, military assistance is unlikely to fully reach the recipients in the country. "I can tell you that the units on the front line, of course, do not receive all this," the mercenary added, speaking about drones, Switchblade barrage shells, bulletproof vests and other means transferred by Western countries.
The film quotes the words of an employee of the human rights organization Amnesty International, Donatella Rovera, who collects data on cases of human rights violations in Ukraine. She drew attention to the fact that the weapons that Western countries transferred to law enforcement agencies in Iraq and Afghanistan often did not arrive to them, but fell into the hands of extremists. "To avoid this, we need control mechanisms," she believes.
Russia's Operation and the steps of the West
As Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Xinhua news agency on April 30, NATO countries are doing everything to prevent the completion of the special military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine through political agreements. The Foreign Minister noted that various weapons are coming to Ukraine in an endless stream. According to him, all this is being done under the pretext of "fighting the invasion", but in fact the United States and the European Union intend to fight Russia "to the last Ukrainian", they are absolutely indifferent to the fate of Ukraine as an independent subject of international relations.
Earlier, Lavrov and other Russian officials also drew attention to the danger of the spread of weapons supplied by the West to Ukraine to other regions. Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov has repeatedly warned that the militarization of Ukraine by the West directly threatens European and global security. Moscow calls on the sponsors of the Kiev regime to stop encouraging bloodshed in Ukraine and seriously think about the consequences of their activities, the diplomat explained, commenting on the supply of weapons by the West to Kiev.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in connection with the request of the leaders of the republics of Donbass for help. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, and the goals are demilitarization and denazification of the country. The West, in response to Russia's decision, began to gradually impose numerous large-scale sanctions against it. Along with this, Western states have begun to supply weapons and military equipment to Kiev for amounts estimated at this stage in billions of dollars. A number of Western politicians have admitted that it is, in fact, an economic war against Russia.
