The radiation accident was avoided only by a miracle, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation noted
On August 5, the armed formations of Ukraine (VFU) carried out artillery strikes on the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and Energodar three times. Part of the equipment of power unit No. 3 was de-energized at the NPP, the generated power of power unit No. 4 was reduced. A flare fire occurred at the hydrogen station. According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, it was possible to avoid a radiation accident only by a miracle. On the same day, in the Kharkiv region, the VFU and foreign mercenaries opened fire on local residents who did not want to let them stay. As a result, nine people were injured. Experts note that people are tired of fighting, so excesses with shooting when deploying troops in residential buildings of the VFU cannot be avoided.
The attack on the Zaporozhye NPP
On Friday, August 5, from 16:20 to 17:24, Ukrainian armed formations carried out three artillery strikes on the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and the city of Energodar. A total of 20 152-millimeter shells were fired, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
According to the Russian military department, the shelling was carried out by one of the units of the 45th Artillery Brigade of the VFU from firing positions near the village of Manganese on the opposite bank of the Kremenchug reservoir controlled by the Ukrainian army.
— As a result of the shelling, electricity and water supply are partially absent in the city of Energodar, part of the equipment of power unit No. 3 has been de-energized at the NPP, the generated power of power unit No. 4 has been reduced. In addition, the hydrogen pipeline was damaged, which caused a flare ignition of hydrogen at the hydrogen station. The fire was promptly extinguished by the emergency services that arrived," said Igor Konashenkov, an official representative of the Ministry of Defense.

According to him, by a lucky chance, the Ukrainian shells did not hit the nearby oil and fuel economy and oxygen station. Otherwise, it would not have been possible to avoid a larger fire and a possible radiation accident at Europe's largest nuclear power plant.
— The special cynicism of this provocation of the Kiev regime is given by the fact that it was carried out during the international conference on the operation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in New York, under the auspices of the United Nations. We call on international organizations to condemn the criminal actions of the Zelensky regime, which carries out acts of nuclear terrorism," Igor Konashenkov said.
He also warned that in case of further provocations at the nuclear power plant, all responsibility for the disruption of its operation falls entirely on the Kiev regime.
Shooting at the house
In the Kharkiv region, nine local residents were injured as a result of a conflict with the commanders of the units of the 92nd mechanized brigade of the VFU. The command of this compound tried to forcibly evict civilians from their homes in order to place foreign mercenaries in them, as well as equipment in the adjacent areas of military equipment and artillery positions, the Russian military department reported.
— To suppress the protests, nationalists and foreign mercenaries opened fire, as a result of which four local residents in the settlement of Shestakovo and five in Verkhny Saltov received gunshot wounds of varying severity, — Igor Konashenkov clarified.
It is very difficult to judge the relations of civilians in the non-liberated areas of the DPR or the eastern regions of Ukraine without being there and not knowing all the circumstances, but certain conclusions can still be drawn, military expert Vladislav Shurygin told Izvestia.

— Of course, the very presence of foreign mercenaries is very disliked by local residents, — the expert is sure. — They understand perfectly well that these are people who, no matter how cynical it may sound, have come to hunt other people. They understand that the mercenaries do not have human feelings towards them. Of course, they are afraid to let them stay, because they expect lawlessness and even violence from them. At the same time, ordinary people are well aware that if a lot of mercenaries settle in their house and neighborhood and fire positions are equipped, there is a chance that a shell will fly to them.
Also, according to the expert, the general fatigue from the fighting is beginning to affect.
— Ordinary people bear a very heavy, primarily psychological burden. For this reason, everything related to fighting causes rejection. In such an environment, new protests are inevitable, — Vladislav Shurygin believes.
On the same day, a group of LPR and DPR troops with the fire support of the Russian Armed Forces liberated the village of Gladosovo, the headquarters of the territorial defense of the DPR reported on August 5. It is located between Gorlovka and Artemovsk (Bakhmut).
A total of 266 settlements have been liberated on the territory of the DPR since the beginning of the special military operation.

Russian operational-tactical, army aviation, missile troops and artillery hit four control points during the day, including the 58th motorized Infantry brigade, the 54th mechanized brigade, two warehouses of rocket and artillery weapons and ammunition, a temporary deployment point of the nationalist formation and 182 areas of concentration of troops.
During the counter-battery struggle, three platoons of D-30 howitzers in firing positions and a platoon of MLRS "Grad" were destroyed.
Russian air defense units shot down five unmanned aerial vehicles, three multiple rocket launchers and three Tochka-U ballistic missiles during the day.

Filming requires sacrifice
The leadership of Ukraine continues to prepare and carry out provocations for the subsequent discrediting of the Russian Armed Forces, Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the National Defense Management Center of the Russian Federation, said on August 5.
So, on July 30, a group of foreign journalists arrived in the city of Orekhov, Zaporozhye region, where the 65th Motorized Infantry Brigade of the VFU is temporarily stationed, to photograph and videotape artillery strikes, which they wanted to provoke the Russian army.
— On the night of July 30 to 31, intense fire from mortars and MLRS was conducted from residential quarters on the positions of Russian troops. The units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine pursued only one goal — to provoke retaliatory strikes of the artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on residential areas for their subsequent fixation," Mikhail Mizintsev said.

According to him, the Russian army did not return fire.
"These criminal actions are sanctioned by the Kiev regime, which regularly and purposefully creates conditions for the death of its citizens and blames the Russian Federation for this," the general said.
Mikhail Mizintsev also said that the VFU continues to use civilian infrastructure for military purposes.
In Artemovsk (DPR), large-caliber mortars were placed in the courtyards of residential buildings on Sadovaya Street, from which the positions of the Russian Armed Forces are systematically shelled. At the same time, local residents have not been evacuated from their apartments and are being used as human shields.
In Nikolaev, the military personnel of the VFU equipped a strong point at school No. 36, and in the immediate vicinity of the educational institution placed armored vehicles and artillery. Evacuation of residents of nearby houses was not carried out.
In the village of Iverskoye (DPR), territorial defense units and the VFU are stationed in the house of culture, checkpoints and firing points are deployed, approaches to the building are mined, but the local population has not been notified about this.
On minefields
On August 5, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation told about soldiers and officers of the Armed Forces of Russia and the 1st Army Corps of the People's Militia of the DPR, who showed courage and dedication during the special operation.

In one of the engineering reconnaissance, Haidar discovered and neutralized nine tripwires and discovered the positions of two enemy mortar crews. Timganov promptly transmitted their coordinates to the command, thanks to which an artillery strike was inflicted on the enemy positions.
By his actions, Haidar Timganov ensured the rapid advance of troops and their successful performance of combat missions, the Defense Ministry stressed.
The engineering and reconnaissance group of Senior Lieutenant Kirill Makarov discovered and defused more than 10 improvised explosive devices and more than 15 anti-tank mines planted by the enemy.
— Thanks to the decisive actions of Senior Lieutenant Kirill Makarov, as well as the high professionalism of his subordinates, the group managed to ensure the rapid advance of troops and their successful performance of combat missions, — noted in the military department.
The head of the Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) service of the brigade of the 1st Army Corps of the People's Militia of the DPR Guard, Senior Lieutenant Alexey Ershov, has been serving since 2016. He started as a scout-machine gunner, and then transferred to the UAV group. The unit of Senior Lieutenant Alexei Ershov corrects artillery fire on enemy positions, fights against enemy unmanned aerial vehicles, and also ensures the delivery and dumping of propaganda leaflets to the positions of the VFU. Yershov's subordinates have more than a dozen intercepted Ukrainian and foreign UAVs, as well as more than 30 planted quadrocopters.
