The United States continues to escalate the situation around military support for Taiwan, despite Beijing's increasingly harsh warnings about non-interference in China's internal affairs. Fox News reported that representatives of the Republican Party plan to submit to the US Congress a bill on the supply of weapons to Taiwan under the lend-lease program. The plan of military assistance to Taipei was developed by Republican senators Michelle Steele and Marsha Blackburn, taking as a basis the program of US support for allies in World War II.
Steele commented on his initiative.
If the bill is passed, it will allow the US president to provide or lease weapons and military equipment to Taiwan. Taipei will have to pay for the restoration or replacement of weapons within twelve years. The White House may reconsider the terms of compensation payments if it considers that they may harm the national security of both Taiwan and the United States. The bill has already received preliminary approval from both parties in Congress.
During a telephone conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden the day before, the Chinese leader warned the US against interfering in relations with Taiwan. Beijing regularly emphasizes that this issue is in the exclusive prerogative of the Chinese authorities, and any speculation on the sovereignty of Taiwan will be severely suppressed. The PRC has repeatedly warned the United States that it is ready for a military response in the event of an escalation of the situation with Taiwan.
Taiwan's official representative to the United States, Xiao Bi-him, told Fox News that Taipei welcomes any help in its struggle for freedom.

Fox News also noted that earlier the US Congress had already approved a lend-lease program to assist Ukraine, which is "fighting the invasion of Russia." Now American lawmakers hope that the same will be done to help Taiwan in a difficult moment, the authors of the publication believe.
