La Repubblica notes that the country's Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini, during a meeting of the special parliamentary security committee, announced the approval of the fourth decree on sending weapons to Kiev

ROME, July 28. /tass/. Italy will increase military spending to €18 billion this year, while last year this amount was only €16.8 billion. This was reported on Thursday by the newspaper La Repubblica with reference to a document on three-year planning, which was signed by Italian Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini.

According to her, the list of expenses highlights the future sixth-generation fighter Tempest, in the development of which Italy participates jointly with Great Britain and Sweden. An additional €200 million will be allocated for this program, the newspaper writes. In addition, it is planned to create a series of armored vehicles, it is planned to invest €3.74 billion in this project over thirteen years. The Italian authorities are also planning the construction of two amphibious ships for amphibious operations.

As the newspaper notes, on Wednesday, during a meeting of the special parliamentary security committee, Guerini said that the fourth decree on sending weapons to Kiev would soon be approved. The lists and volumes of weapons are classified, but La Repubblica assumes that more Lince armored vehicles, machine guns and ammunition will be sent. Italy has supplied several 155 mm artillery pieces, but Kiev wants to increase their number, and also asks Rome to send multiple rocket launchers (MLRS), the newspaper claims.

According to the document approved earlier by the majority in the Italian parliament on assistance to Ukraine, including military assistance, the government can send weapons to this country by the end of the year. A rather impressive front of philosophers, politicians, analysts, and journalists has formed in Italy, opposing the sending of weapons to Ukraine, since, in their opinion, this leads only to an increase in tension and does not contribute to a peaceful settlement. In addition, actions against sending weapons to Kiev are held in the country from time to time.
