According to the representative of the State Department, according to official data, two Americans who allegedly fought for Ukraine died in the eastern part of the country.
"We can confirm the recent death of two US citizens in the Donbas of Ukraine. We are in touch with the families and are providing all possible consular assistance," the ABC TV channel quotes the representative of the State Department.
He added that he would not give other details of what happened "out of respect for the families." He also did not name the victims.
Foreign mercenaries participating in the battles on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told NBC on July 21 that they always carry means for self-destruction with them so as not to fall into Russian captivity.
According to one American mercenary, he always has a hand grenade with him to quickly activate it in case of danger of being captured. And former US Army staff Sergeant James Vasquez said that he personally trained soldiers to self-destruct in case of a threat to be captured.
On July 19, the deputy commander of the battalion of the 9th Regiment of the People's Militia of the Donetsk People's Republic with the call sign Khokhol told RIA Novosti that Poland, the United Kingdom and the United States made up the three leaders in the number of mercenaries fighting for Kiev.
Mercenary deaths
On the same day, SVT reported that a Swedish lieutenant who previously served in the Swedish Air Force in Uppsala was killed in the fighting near Donetsk. He was 28 years old, he was wounded in the chest and died.
"He came here a couple of months ago and was here to share his tactical knowledge," a source told the broadcaster.
Several hundred Swedes went to Ukraine, including to join the so-called international brigade. Some of the mercenaries previously served in the Swedish Armed Forces and resigned to go to Ukraine. Sources of the TV channel reported that there are also mercenaries who, violating the rules, came to fight, being soldiers of the Swedish Armed Forces.
On July 15, the DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova announced in her Telegram channel about the death of a captured British mercenary Paul.
"Given the diagnoses and stress, he passed away on July 10," she wrote.
Morozova added that during the first medical examination, he was diagnosed with a number of chronic diseases. Among them are insulin-dependent diabetes, damage to the respiratory system, kidneys and several diseases of the cardiovascular system. The Ombudsman noted that Uri was provided with medical assistance.
According to Morozova, the British authorities, international organizations and foreign media were notified of Uri's capture.
Sentenced to death
On June 9, three foreigners captured in Mariupol were sentenced to death in Donetsk: two British citizens, Sean Pinner and Aiden Aslin, as well as a Moroccan citizen, Saadoun Brahim. They partially admitted their guilt. Now they can be shot.
In mid-June, in the battles near Kharkov, the Russian military also captured two former servicemen of the American army - 39-year-old Alexander Druke, who served in Iraq, and 27-year-old Andy Huhne.
The official representative of the State Department, Ned Price, said that the United States is in direct contact with the Russian authorities about the mercenaries detained in Ukraine from the United States.
"We have not received any formal or official response, other than what the Russian representatives voiced in public interviews," Price added.
In total, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 7,107 mercenaries from more than 60 countries have arrived in Ukraine since the beginning of the special operation. At the same time, 2,347 of them died, 2019 - left.
