Watch out, Vlad! British Marines demonstrated disembarkation and firing of heavy machine guns in exercises with comrades from the Netherlands
The Daily Mail tabloid published an article about the military exercises of the Royal Marines under a provocative headline. The authors felt that the recent maneuvers should somehow frighten Vladimir Putin. Some readers considered this presentation of the material a "circus" and urged the publication not to escalate the already tense situation.
Royal Marines staged a show of force during exercises with Dutch allies at the base in Den Helder, dedicated to the anniversary of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
Marines from the 47th Special Forces raid group practiced landing on the shore with comrades from the Marine Corps firing heavy machine guns and unloading armored vehicles.
The landing ships Karel Doorman and Mounts Bay took part in the Green Tulip exercises.
The Netherlands strongly condemned the Russian special operation and provided military support to Ukraine by sending 18 armored self-propelled howitzers to Kiev.
At the same time, the Dutch Defense Minister warned that the country's armed forces had already reached the limit, and stressed that their arsenals were emptying.
Earlier, the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Christophe van der Maat, admitted that if the Netherlands is attacked, their armed forces will be able to hold out for only "a few days."
Almost 100 thousand visitors gathered in Den Helder, where the largest naval base in the country is located, for the holiday weekend. Similar celebrations of the British Navy took place last month.
The Mounts Bay was especially popular - there were whole queues of people who wanted to get on board at the pier. In addition, the ship turned into a floating TV studio for live broadcasts.
"Our 35-meter bridge had the best view of Den Helder, so our ship became the most popular," said Captain Ali Clack.
"With the support of the 47th raid Group, the Royal Navy ship received more than four thousand visitors over the weekend and demonstrated the armament of our landing ships, fire extinguishing equipment and navigation equipment," he added.
Cadet Alexandra Knight added: "It is especially great to see the partnership between the countries newly arrived. It was just fantastic!".
"Mounts Bay" and the 47th raid group are conducting exercises to work out coordinated actions with their Dutch colleagues.
