TSAMTO, July 19. Beijing demands that Washington abandon its plan to sell weapons to Taipei. This, as RIA Novosti reports, was stated by the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of China Tan Kefei.
"Recently, the American side has assured us several times that it does not support Taiwan's independence, but on the issue of arms sales to Taiwan, we see how their words diverge from their actions, there is no honesty in them. China demands that the United States immediately withdraw its plan to sell weapons to Taiwan, cease any military ties with the island, otherwise the responsibility for the destruction of military relations between Beijing and Washington, as well as peace and stability in Taiwan, will fall entirely on the United States," the official stressed.
According to him, by selling weapons to Taiwan, the United States is causing serious damage to China's sovereignty, destroying bilateral relations in the military sphere.
"The future of Taiwan, the security of our Taiwanese compatriots cannot be bought. The Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan and other separatist forces are trying in vain to increase their importance with the help of the United States, their attempts to achieve independence with weapons will only aggravate the situation," continued T. Kefei.
He stressed that the People's Liberation Army of China will take all necessary measures to protect the state sovereignty of the country.
As RIA Novosti reminds, last week the US Agency for Security Cooperation reported that the US State Department approved the possible sale to Taiwan of spare parts and equipment for the repair of combat vehicles and tanks, as well as the provision of technical support and logistical assistance in the amount of $ 108 million.
