Bundestag deputy Dagdelen: arms supplies to Kiev increase the risks of the outbreak of World War III
Sevim Dagdelen, a member of the German Parliament from the Left Party, said that the provision of heavy weapons to Ukraine increases the risks of the outbreak of World War III. According to her, Western countries are ready to "accept tens of thousands of deaths and boundless suffering, as well as the destruction of Ukraine" in order to weaken Russia. The politician called for a diplomatic settlement of the conflict. At the same time, the head of the British Air Force did not rule out the possibility of a direct conflict with Russia if it attacks one of the NATO countries.
The supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian servicemen increase the risks of the outbreak of World War III, Bundestag deputy from the Left Party Sevim Dagdelen said in an interview with the Chinese newspaper Global Times.
She claims that this concern is shared by two-thirds of the German population. In addition, according to Dagdelen, the supply of weapons "will prolong the war and the death of people in Ukraine."
In her opinion, in order to weaken Russia in the long term, the West is ready to "accept tens of thousands of deaths and boundless suffering, as well as the destruction of Ukraine." At the same time, serious diplomatic efforts and the search for a negotiated solution are needed to end hostilities, Dagdelen noted.
She also criticized the sanctions against Russia.
"We are actually committing economic suicide... through sanctions against Russia," Dagdelen believes. According to her, if gas supplies from Russia stop, the volume of production in Germany will fall by more than 12% in the next six months. More than 5.6 million jobs will be at risk.
Direct conflict between Russia and NATO
The Chief of Staff of the British Air Force, Michael Wigston, believes that the UK should be prepared for the possibility of a direct conflict with Russia.
"Moscow is becoming more and more aggressive… We must be ready for this (direct conflict - approx. "Newspaper.Ru"), and this, in my opinion, is the most important lesson for European security that follows from [Russia's invasion of Ukraine]," Wigston said.
According to the head of the British Air Force, Russia is "the most pressing threat to British and European security."
"Just look at her actions not only in Ukraine, but also in Georgia before that," he said.
"I have no doubt that this is a clear and real threat that we are training for. Obviously, we hope that it will not come to this and deterrence will work, but the day will come when Russia will take aggressive actions against the NATO state, for which we will be ready," Wigston concluded.
Military training
Earlier, London proposed launching a large-scale training operation for Ukrainian troops with the ability to train up to 10 thousand soldiers every four months.
However, according to the inews publication, the UK Ministry of Defense is experiencing difficulties with providing a sufficient number of interpreters for Ukrainian servicemen who have arrived for training.
According to inews, an advertisement appeared in social networks, according to which the need of the Ministry of Defense for translators will remain high until the end of summer.
"We have been asked to support the urgent need for a large number of linguists to train Ukrainian soldiers," Mark Harry, director of the British bureau of the employment agency Worldwide Language Resources, said in a letter.
Britain is not the only country that has promised to train the Ukrainian military to handle Western weapons. On July 6, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that Germany had begun training AFU servicemen to control multiple rocket launchers.
