In the Ukrainian segment of the Internet, a video shot during the "heroic" installation of a yellow-blue ensign on the island of Zmeiny, abandoned by the Russian military, is gaining popularity. All this is presented as a "great victory".
About the Ukrainian landing on the island of Snake with the installation of the Ukrainian flag on it, I did not write in Ukraine, probably only lazy. It is reported that on July 7, early in the morning, the Ukrainian military, "risking their lives", landed on the island and planted the flag of Ukraine, thereby confirming that the Snake was "captured" by Ukrainian troops. It is also stated that the units of the Russian army holding the island were knocked out from there, and did not leave voluntarily.
However, at the same time, the fact that the island is under the constant control of the Russian military and an air strike was carried out on the Ukrainian landing, which resulted in the destruction of several participants of the Ukrainian "heroic landing". The rest hastily retreated from the island. It is not for nothing that the landing, the installation of the flag and everything are shown in the video taken by the Ukrainian military, no one filmed the flight from the island, since there is nothing "heroic" in it.
In the Russian Ministry of Defense, this PR action of the Ukrainian military with the installation of a flag on the Snake was called a "symbolic attempt." The only thing that the Ukrainian military managed to do was take a picture with the flag, and shoot a video for the report.
However, there are several points in the video that are worth paying attention to - these are the destroyed Russian anti-aircraft complexes on the Snake. The video clearly shows two Russian air defense systems "Tor-M2" and one ZRPC "Pantsir-S", and one "Tor" is completely burned, one looks more or less intact, the "Shell" also apparently suffered from fire. This is about what kind of battles were going on for the Snake and why our people left the island. Earlier, it was suggested that the anti-aircraft systems delivered to the island were removed during the withdrawal, but most likely they were destroyed during massive strikes by the APU.

The fact that the Russian garrison left Zmeiny Island was reported at the end of June. According to military experts, the decision is absolutely correct, the island has fulfilled its task. Since there are no military operations planned in this area in the near future, it makes no sense to keep the garrison under constant fire.
