The latest LPD-801V electronic warfare rifle was first used during a special operation in Ukraine. This is reported by TASS with reference to a source in the law enforcement agencies.
It is clarified that it was used against small-sized unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
Small-sized drones are a serious threat to Russian servicemen and military units of the republics of Donbass, the interlocutor of TASS stressed. However, he noted, such means of struggle as the LPD-801 are able to counteract Ukrainian drones quite effectively.
The source explained this by the fact that many of them are converted UAVs in domestic conditions.
"They were not originally designed for use in conditions of serious electronic countermeasures," he notes.
Earlier, on July 6, it was reported about another first use of a new weapon of the Russian army — electromagnetic complexes "Stupor". They neutralize the enemy's equipment, drowning out the signal between the operator and the drone.
The electromagnetic complex was created by the Main Research and Testing Center of Robotics of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. For the first time, the Stupor model was presented at the Army-2017 international military-technical forum.
On June 22, the Russian Defense Ministry showed the combat operation of the Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile system. With his help, the soldiers eliminated the drone, which was moving in the direction of the positions of the Russian troops.
Moscow launched a special operation to protect the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics on February 24. It was preceded by the aggravation of the situation in the region, the appeal of the leadership of the republics of Donbass to the Russian Federation with a request for help and the subsequent recognition by Russia of the independence of the DPR and LPR.
Kiev has been conducting a military operation against residents of the LDPR who refused to recognize the results of the coup in Ukraine since 2014.
