TSAMTO, July 8. The share of the BRICS countries in the global arms market for the period 2013-2020 was, according to the CAMTO, 20.61%.

For comparison, the share of the G7 countries in the global arms market for the same period is estimated at 62.57%. Moreover, the share of the United States is 39.87%, and the other six G7 countries account for 22.7%.

The global volume of world exports of VIVT for this period amounted, according to the CAMTO, to 599.490 billion dollars.

It is noteworthy that the figure of 20.61% in the segment of exports of VIVT is higher than the percentage of the BRICS countries in other indicators. In particular, according to estimates, the share of the BRICS countries by the end of 2020 accounted for 19% of global exports of goods, 16% of global imports of goods, 19% of incoming and almost the same amount of outgoing direct investment (these data are cited by the RIA Novosti agency).

The BRICS includes five countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The G7 includes the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, the USA, France and Japan.

Many analysts characterize the current geopolitical situation as a gradual transition of world leadership from the G7 to the BRICS.

Military equipment is the most knowledge-intensive commodity reflecting the development of national economies, especially when it comes to the export of VIVT. Taking into account the volume of exports of VIVT by the BRICS and G7 countries, it can be argued that the BRICS countries are quite competitive with the G7 in terms of the development of national economies.

For reference:

The next, 14th BRICS summit was held on June 23-24 under the chairmanship of China. In addition to the BRICS Five, a number of other states participated in the expanded format discussion.

Experts believe that in the future the number of BRICS member countries may increase significantly. Iran and Argentina have submitted official applications for membership. Among the potential candidates, he names Mexico, Algeria, Venezuela, the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia.

The BRICS countries advocate the establishment of a democratic multipolar order in the world based on the principles of equality, justice and respect for each other, advocate that world trade and finance be free from barriers and various kinds of politically motivated restrictions and sanctions.

According to the RIA Novosti news agency, the total population of the BRICS states is about 3.23 billion. a person, that is, more than 40% of the world's population. By 2020, the total GDP of the BRICS countries amounted to 25% of the global ($21 trillion), and the share in international trade was almost 20% ($6.7 trillion). According to data for 2021, the total GDP of the BRICS countries was estimated at $23.5 trillion.

It is predicted that by 2030, the share of the "five" in world trade will exceed the combined share of the United States and European countries, reaching 37%.

It should be noted that the development and creation of modern weapons in a particular country is possible only if there is a developed scientific and industrial base. And the volume of exports of VIVT indirectly characterizes the country's production potential. From this point of view, the BRICS countries are quite competitive with the G7 countries.

BRICS countries

In terms of identified military exports for the period 2013-2020, Russia ranks second in the global ranking (first in BRICS) with a share volume of 16.15% (96.802 billion dollars).

For reference:

Like any other agency involved in the assessment of the global arms trade, CAMTO, of course, does not have complete information about all contracts concluded and deliveries made due to insufficient "transparency" of the data provided. Both for Russia and for other countries of the world, the CAMTO calculation takes into account only identified supplies of VIVT, which are less than the actual volume of exports. Based on indirect data, for Russia, the volume of "unaccounted for" military exports is estimated by CAMTO at 15-20%, for most Western countries this volume is significantly less3-7%. This should be taken into account for an objective valuation of military exports of the Russian Federation and other countries of the world, since in all calculations, CAMTO cites only identified volumes of military exports.

China ranks 6th in the global ranking (second in BRICS) with a share volume of 3.44% ($20.641 billion).

Brazil ranks 18th in the global ranking (third in BRICS) with a share volume of 0.53% ($3.150 billion).

South Africa ranks 21st in the global ranking (fourth in BRICS) with a share volume of 0.38% ($2.259 billion).

India ranks 27th in the global ranking (fifth in BRICS) with a share volume of 0.12% (about $ 700 million).
