Turkey got what it wanted in NATO: the commitments of Sweden and Finland
Turkey, Sweden and Finland signed a memorandum on the accession of Stockholm and Helsinki to NATO, Haber7 writes. Readers of the publication do not believe the Scandinavians and believe that they will join the alliance, but they will not fulfill their obligations.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met at the quadrilateral talks.
As a result of the summit, a trilateral memorandum on the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO was signed.
Turkey got what it wanted
Turkey, which has reacted negatively to Sweden and Finland because of the support provided to the terrorist organization Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), has achieved the desired result. Stockholm and Helsinki have made the following commitments:
- Full cooperation with Turkey in the fight against the PKK and its offshoots.
- Showing solidarity with Turkey in the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
- Refusal to support the Democratic Union Party (PYD) /People's Self-Defense Units (YPG) and the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ).
- Abandoning the embargo in the defense industry, increasing cooperation in this area.
- Amendments to the national legislation and practice of Sweden and Finland in the field of combating terrorism and the defense industry.
- Creation of a structured mechanism for cooperation on the exchange of intelligence in the field of combating terrorism and organized crime.
- Taking concrete steps to extradite terrorist criminals and conducting standard procedures at the bilateral level.
- Banning fundraising activities and recruiting new members of the PKK and its offshoots and front organizations, as well as investigating this.
- Prevention of terrorist propaganda against Turkey.
- Support for the broadest participation of Finland and Sweden in EU security mechanisms, including PESKO (Permanent Structured EU Cooperation).
- Creation of a permanent joint mechanism with the participation of justice, intelligence and security agencies to monitor the implementation of these steps.
It is noted that the decisive position of President Erdogan contributed to the achievement of such results.
On the other hand, the international agreement clearly showed that along with the PKK, the Democratic Union/People's Self-Defense Units (YPG), the FETÖ organization is also a terrorist organization. From this point of view, the agreement was an important step in Turkey's fight against FETÖ.

What about other NATO members? They still supply whole trucks with weapons.

Germany also recognizes them as a terrorist organization, and the result?

We should not act against Russia. We need good relations with the Russians. Therefore, it is necessary to resist the entry of these countries into NATO, putting forward a variety of pretexts... Russians are better than the USA and Israel. During the War of Independence, the Russians helped us with ammunition.

In return – full membership in the EU.

If these countries join NATO, World War III will begin. I'm afraid Russia will hit us too...

All NATO members violate these conditions.

And if they become members and fail to fulfill their obligations, what then?

Emrah, it will be so, unfortunately, and we will not be able to do anything. It's sad, but it's a fact, alas.
