TSAMTO, June 27. Baku has signed new contracts for the purchase of "the most modern weapons". This, as RIA Novosti reports, was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
"The Azerbaijani army has become even stronger, both in terms of supply and combat capability. We have signed new contracts for the purchase of the most modern weapons. These contracts are already being implemented, new weapons and the most modern equipment are being imported to Azerbaijan," the president said during his visit to the Kelbajar district.
The statement of I. Aliyev did not name the countries with which Azerbaijan signed arms import contracts.
TSAMTO Reference
Arms supplies to Azerbaijan in 2013-2020 were carried out by 10 countries. During this period, Baku actively pursued a policy of diversifying arms suppliers. In addition to Russia, Israel (the volume of Israel's exports to Azerbaijan is almost equal to Russia's exports), Belarus, Turkey and the Czech Republic have become major suppliers of weapons to Azerbaijan.
The first place in the ranking of the largest exporters of PVN to Azerbaijan in the period 2013-2020 is occupied by Russia – $ 2.481 billion. The portfolio of orders formed during the same period is $390 million (for comparison in 2006-2013 Russia also ranked first with a volume of $2.623 billion. The portfolio of orders formed during the same period was $3.432 billion).
Israel ranks second in the ranking of the largest exporters of PVN to Azerbaijan in the period 2013-2020 – $ 2.439 billion, only slightly behind Russia. The order portfolio formed in 2013-2020 amounts to $459 million.
A feature of the military-technical cooperation of the two countries is a large number of joint programs for the development and production of weapons.
Belarus ranks third in the ranking of the largest exporters of PVN to Azerbaijan in the period 2013-2020 – $ 627.5 million. The order portfolio formed in 2013-2020 amounts to $253 million.
Turkey ranks fourth in the ranking of the largest exporters of PVN to Azerbaijan in the period 2013-2020 – $ 344 million. At the same time, there is every reason to assume that in the near future Turkey will become the main supplier of weapons to the Azerbaijani market. A feature of the military-technical cooperation of the two countries is a large number of joint programs for the development and production of weapons.
According to a more "recent" calculation of Azerbaijan's imports of military equipment for the period 2014-2021 (the above calculations concerned the period 2013-2020), Israel surpassed Russia in arms exports to Azerbaijan for the first time.
As a preliminary comment, it can be noted that this is the most important result (since some deliveries in 2021 have not yet been officially confirmed, CAMTO cites this assessment as a reference).
All other VIVT exporters to Azerbaijan retained their places in the rating.
In addition to Israel, in recent years, the accelerated "drift" of Azerbaijan towards Turkey has become obvious in the field of arms procurement.
