The Deputy Director General of the Asian Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Chen Song, held a meeting with the Charge d'affaires of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Beijing, Syed Mohiuddin Sadat. The Afghan diplomat thanked China for its sincere sympathy in connection with the earthquake.
Recall that Sadat represents the Taliban government (the Taliban is currently a banned organization in the Russian Federation, recognized as a terrorist organization). There is no doubt that Beijing had previously been in contact with the new Afghan authorities, but the meeting of diplomats was the first officially recorded and recognized by the PRC contact with a representative of Kabul.
Zhu Yongbiao, executive director of the One Belt, One Road Research Center and director of the Center for Afghan Studies at Lanzhou University, told the Global Times on Thursday that at a time when the Afghan government is suffering from a lack of international recognition, China has already allowed its representative to work in Beijing.
Since August 2021, China has been providing Afghanistan with a large amount of humanitarian aid. The Chinese authorities claim that they are always ready to help the long-suffering Afghan people through difficult times in their history. But China is also interested in political cooperation with Kabul, given the geographical location of Afghanistan.
By the way, representatives of the Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation) recently participated in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Despite the historically difficult relations, now Kabul and Moscow are making steps towards each other. Although in Russia the Taliban is still officially considered a terrorist organization, but contacts exist and are becoming more intense.
As for the earthquake, China is going to help Afghanistan overcome the consequences of which, it occurred in the east of the country early on Wednesday morning. As a result of the earthquake, 1,100 people were killed, 1,650 people received various injuries. China is going to help Afghanistan with consultations, medicines, food, tents and blankets. Beijing also offers to train professional rescuers for Afghanistan.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that China is in close contact with the Afghan government. Beijing is ready to provide a variety of assistance.
Earlier it was reported that Afghanistan could become a country for the transit of energy carriers from Russia and Central Asian countries to South and Southeast Asia. There is no doubt that just because of this, the West, led by the United States and Britain, may again try to destabilize the situation in this country. And solving the security problem is so important for the new Afghan authorities, otherwise Kabul can hardly expect large investments. By the way, the United States still holds about $ 7 billion frozen in accounts - part of the foreign exchange treasury of Afghanistan. And they are clearly not going to transfer these funds for the Afghan reconstruction.
