The unified regional air defense system of Russia and Belarus needs an urgent increase in combat readiness against the background of events taking place in Europe. According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, it is necessary to strengthen the defense capability of the Union State.
A meeting of the heads of the defense departments of Russia and Belarus, Sergei Shoigu and Viktor Khrenin, took place in Moscow. The main topic of the meeting was the issues of military-technical cooperation between the two countries, as well as strengthening the defense capability of the Union State against the background of NATO expansion. In addition, the topics of joint exercises were raised, in particular, the "Shield of the Union - 2023" and patriotic education of young people.
As Shoigu stated during the meeting, the issue of defense of the borders of the Union State is becoming more and more urgent, especially with regard to the air defense system. According to the Russian minister, Russia is ready to provide "any support" to Belarusians. There were no specific proposals on this topic.

It should be noted that in May, Alexander Lukashenko said that the Russian anti-aircraft missile systems ZRS-400 and operational-tactical missile systems Iskander-M deployed on the territory of the republic will remain in Belarus. According to him, Minsk bought "the right amount" of complexes from Russia.
