Beijing. June 23. INTERFAX - Issues related to the revision of strategic plans and tasks of military units stationed on the front line of defense were discussed at a meeting of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea (CPC) in Pyongyang, the Korean Central Telegraph Agency (KCNA) reported.
"It discussed the work on additional confirmation of the operational responsibilities of the advanced units of the Korean People's Army and changing the plans of operations (...), as well as issues related to the reorganization of key military formations," the agency said in a statement.
The meeting was chaired by the Secretary General of the CPC, Kim Jong-un. According to KCNA, he "expressed a strategic view and outlined the decision of the Central Committee of the party to take important military measures to increase the operational capabilities of advanced units," and also "stressed the importance of this work, explained all the principles, tasks and ways of its implementation."
The Associated Press (AP) agency, commenting on the KCNA information, noted that the DPRK "may want to deploy nuclear weapons aimed at South Korea along the border."
AP refers to the fact that in April, North Korea announced the test launch of a new type of tactical weapon. The test report stated that these weapons are "of great importance for dramatically increasing the firepower of advanced long-range artillery units, increasing the effectiveness of tactical nuclear weapons and diversifying their use."
Also in April, Kim Jong-un promised to increase the country's nuclear potential "at the fastest pace." According to him, the DPRK will carefully prepare so that the country can resort to nuclear "deterrence" at any time.
The North Korean leader said that "nuclear weapons cannot be limited solely by the framework of preventing war."
