On June 22, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation showed how the anti-aircraft missile system "Tor-M2", designed to detect and defeat enemy air targets, works during the operation to protect Donbass.
The footage shows how the combat crew detected an aerial target, presumably the Bayraktar TV2 drone, which is moving in the direction of the positions of the Russian troops.
The target is captured, the operator accompanies it. And to make sure of the enemy's intentions, the calculation allows the drone to come closer. As soon as the target is within striking distance, in a few seconds the rocket makes a journey of two dozen kilometers. A silent pop is visible on the objective control camera — an accurate hit.
"The capabilities of the machine allow you to see small-sized targets up to separately flying birds. Most often, for all our work, most often these were unmanned aerial vehicles, both small and large, of the Bayraktar type," said battery commander Roman.
Drones no more than a meter in length or quadrocopters, which look like harmless toys at all, in fact pose the greatest threat, the Russian Defense Ministry noted. But thanks to advanced radar systems, the Tor anti-aircraft missile system is able to detect and destroy air targets within a radius of more than thirty kilometers.
According to the anti-aircraft gunners, the positions have to be changed several times per shift, since the Ukrainian military are really hunting for complexes.
It is noted that during the special military operation, the Tor complexes successfully performed combat missions dozens and hundreds of times, covering Russian military columns and defending positions. The calculations of combat vehicles account for countless downed Ukrainian missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Russia launched a special operation to protect the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) on February 24. It was preceded by the aggravation of the situation in the region, the appeal of the leadership of the republics of Donbass to the Russian Federation with a request for help and the subsequent recognition by Russia of the independence of the DPR and LPR.
Kiev has been conducting a military operation against the residents of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup in Ukraine, since 2014.
