No American weapons will allow Taiwan to restrain the Armed Forces of the PRC. The difference between the military capabilities of the island and mainland China is too great to even think about any deterrence of the PLA.

Chinese journalists commented on the information about the beginning of negotiations on military security at the highest level between representatives of the United States and the Taiwanese authorities, known as the "Monterrey talks". According to Japanese media reports, Washington is expected to provide the island with weapons to create an "asymmetric potential." According to the Nikkei newspaper, the United States has prepared a list of military purchases for the Taiwanese authorities, including anti-ship missiles, air defense systems and early warning equipment.
Chinese analysts noted that Taiwan's Armed Forces should not even think about deterring the military operations of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA), regardless of what American weapons they receive. According to experts expressed in the Chinese press, the so-called "asymmetric" weapons that the United States intends to deliver to the island are useless due to the absolute superiority of the PLA.

Chinese expert Wei Dunsu believes that the United States supplies Taiwan with obsolete weapons. Such supplies allow them to dispose of it, while earning well.
In particular, even the upgraded F-16 will not allow Taiwan to prevent the PLA Air Force from gaining air supremacy. And Americans are afraid to supply more advanced F-35s. They believe, according to Wei Dunsu, that with their help, the Taiwanese military could provoke Beijing into an armed conflict.
