Moscow. June 15th. INTERFAX-AVN - Russia is in favor of a political and diplomatic settlement allowing the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, but negotiations are frozen by Kiev, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said.
"Russia is interested in reaching political and diplomatic agreements as soon as possible, which would allow the cessation of hostilities. However, the negotiations between Moscow and Kiev are currently frozen by the Ukrainian side," Patrushev said on Wednesday at a meeting of high representatives of the BRICS countries in charge of security issues.
He stated that "it was the destructive actions of the United States, Britain and their allies that led to the termination of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue."
Western arms supplies to Ukraine artificially prolong the conflict, Patrushev said.
"Westerners expect to put pressure on Moscow by continuing to increase arms supplies to Ukraine and increase sanctions pressure," he said.
According to him, "such actions are counterproductive." "They only artificially prolong the conflict, and also lead to additional human casualties and destruction," Patrushev said.
On February 24, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine. In response, many countries have imposed sanctions against Russia. A number of countries supply Ukraine with weapons.
On April 25, the head of the National Defense Control Center of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mizintsev, said that Russian troops control the entire Kherson region, parts of the Kharkiv, Zaporozhye, Mykolaiv regions of Ukraine, a significant part of the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics recognized by Russia.
NATO on Wednesday announced the preparation of a new package of assistance to Ukraine.
