Moscow. June 15th. INTERFAX - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a thorough exchange of views on a wide range of issues on the bilateral and international agenda during a telephone conversation, the Kremlin's press service reported.
"The leaders stated that Russian-Chinese relations are at an unprecedented high level and are constantly improving. We confirmed our desire to consistently deepen comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation in all areas," the message reads.
According to the press service, "the state and prospects of trade and economic cooperation were considered in detail, the volume of which is expected to reach record levels by the end of 2022." "It was agreed to expand cooperation in the energy, financial, industrial, transport and other spheres, taking into account the situation in the global economy that has become complicated as a result of the illegitimate sanctions policy of the West," the message says.
"The issues of further development of military and military-technical ties were also touched upon," the press service noted.
When discussing the situation on the world stage, "it was emphasized that Russia and China, as before, act from common or very close positions, consistently defend the fundamental principles of international law, and strive to build a truly multipolar and fair system of international relations," the message says.
"Mutual readiness to strengthen coordination and mutual support in various multilateral formats, including at the UN site, has been confirmed. The importance of joint work within the SCO and BRICS was highlighted, in particular, in the context of the upcoming BRICS summit on June 23-24, organized by the Chinese chairmanship in this association," the press service reported.
Putin reportedly "outlined principled assessments regarding the situation in Ukraine and the tasks being solved during the special military operation."
"The President of the People's Republic of China noted the legitimacy of the actions taken by Russia to protect the fundamental national interests in the face of challenges to its security created by external forces," the press service noted.
It was agreed to continue bilateral contacts both at the level of heads of state and through various ministries and departments, the Kremlin added.
"The conversation was held in a traditionally warm and friendly manner," the message says.
Earlier on Wednesday, the telephone conversation between the leaders of the Russian Federation and China was reported by Bloomberg with reference to Chinese state television.
During the conversation, Xi Jinping told Putin that China will continue to support Russia on key issues related to sovereignty and security. According to Bloomberg, the Chinese president also noted the need to contribute to the settlement of the crisis around Ukraine. Xi Jinping said that Beijing is pursuing an independent policy towards Ukraine and will continue to make efforts to resolve this crisis.
