Russian servicemen are actively using the Osa-AKM anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) during a special military operation to liberate Donbass. The complex is effective for reconnaissance of the air situation, operational determination of the coordinates of targets and destruction, including drones. Izvestia correspondent Yaroslav Bogat on Wednesday, June 15, showed how the SAM works.
"Our main task is to cover our troops from an aerial enemy, in particular unmanned aerial vehicles. The activity of drones has decreased in recent months, air defense units have begun to bypass drones <...> For other anti-aircraft missile systems, pontoon crossings or some bridges are mainly needed. For this missile system, only a gentle descent from the shore is necessary and, accordingly, so that there is an exit from the water. Overcoming the range does not matter, that is, any river can be overcome. We are coping with the work successfully, all calculations are prepared, everyone is coping with the tasks," says the commander of the Osa—AKM air defense system division.
The anti-aircraft missile system is on combat duty for the air defense of the positions of the Russian troops. During the execution of the tasks, the calculation of the Osa-AKM SAM launcher made a march to firing positions and began reconnaissance of the air situation.
The Osa AKM is a Russian automated military anti—aircraft missile system designed to cover the forces and means of motorized rifle and tank units from enemy air targets.
On April 5, the Russian Defense Ministry published footage of the destruction of the Bayraktar drone by Ukrainian nationalists using the tactical anti-aircraft missile system Tor. The Defense ministry said that 20 air targets were detected during combat duty.
