US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Political Affairs Colin Kohl confirmed the delivery of 108 M777 howitzers and 220 thousand ammunition to Ukraine. His words are transmitted by TASS .
According to Kol, the Ukrainian troops had a shortage of ammunition for artillery, in particular, 152 mm caliber. He noted that in the early stages of the special operation, the United States focused on supplying Ukraine "as much as possible with such ammunition" that was available in the countries that were members of the Warsaw Pact Organization, and currently located on the eastern flank of NATO. "It became difficult to achieve this after the reduction of ammunition levels. Therefore, we switched to the standard NATO artillery system, specifically to the M777 howitzers," he explained.
Kol stressed that the delivered weapons have a range of more than 30 kilometers, and called it "tangible." He also acknowledged that the potential of Russian artillery is currently higher than that of the Ukrainian side.
In June, Ukrainian servicemen spoke about the M777 howitzers supplied by the United States, claiming their high accuracy. Then Politico noted that the M777 was used, in particular, in early May in the village of Belogorovka near Severodonetsk.
