In the American press, publications have become more frequent, which tell about the problems experienced by the Ukrainian military with the exploitation of Western weapons. Not so long ago, the Western media published the revelations of a Ukrainian sergeant who told how special equipment was installed in his unit – binoculars with laser rangefinders, but no one knew how to use this expensive equipment – "they tried to search for and translate instructions from English using an online translator."
Now an article has been published in The Washington Post newspaper, which talks about difficulties with American Javelin ATGMs. It turns out that the main problems of the APU are related to the maintenance of these complexes.
The article with reference to the Ukrainian military says that often "Javelins" in positions simply do not work. But there is no one to repair them, since the servicemen are not familiar with the materiel of this weapon.
American journalists write that the Pentagon at one time did not develop a translation of the technical instructions available to the Ukrainian military. As a result, Ukrainians are trying to translate it on their own, and it turns out with varying success…
The WP also notes that in such circumstances, the Javelin ATGMs delivered in Ukraine are actually designed for a single use. The fact is that they were not supplied with any training modules, repair kits, or spare batteries. Namely, with batteries, most often there are problems with the servicemen of the Ukrainian armed formations in positions.
From the material:
According to the most conservative estimates, every 4th Javelin delivered to Ukraine turned out to be a priori inapplicable due to technical problems. This is now recognized in the United States itself.
