Lithuania will hand over EDM4S Skysweeper anti-drone rifles to Ukraine to fight Russian drones. According to available information, we are talking about 110 units of manual electronic warfare systems.
Lithuania has decided to help Ukraine in the fight against Russian drones by arming the Armed Forces with portable electronic warfare systems of Lithuanian production EDM4S Skysweeper. Delivery dates are not reported, but it is claimed that anti-drone guns have already been purchased.
It is worth noting that these electronic warfare systems are not something new for the Ukrainian army, Kiev and Vilnius in 2020 signed a contract for the supply of a complex modified for the needs of the Armed Forces, called EDM4S-UA. In total, 37 complexes were supposed to be transferred to Kiev by the end of 2020, but Lithuania broke the deadline and handed over the first anti-drone gun only in March 2021.
The EDM4S complex is a specialized electronic warfare tool designed to combat UAVs of different classes. It is built on the basis of a copy of the German G36 rifle. The design uses a slightly modified receiver with a standard fire control handle, butt and carrying handle. New radio equipment units are placed inside and outside the box, four radio transparent casings of different shapes are installed in front, inside which there are directional antennas, the battery is attached to the side.
The exact characteristics of Skysweeper are not disclosed, it is reported that the main purpose is the suppression of UAV control channels and satellite navigation signals.
The complexes supplied by Lithuania should be delivered, first of all, to the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fighting in the Donbas. Lithuania hopes that Ukrainian troops will use anti-drone guns to shoot down Russian drones.
