TSAMTO, June 8. Ukraine wants to buy the Iron Dome missile defense system from Israel, while Kiev does not need a "donation" of the air defense system.
This, as RIA Novosti reports, was reported by the Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post with reference to the Ukrainian ambassador Yevgeny Korniychuk.
"I want the Israeli government to step out of its comfort zone and return to reality... We need Israel's help… I mean, we need military-technical support, we need an Iron Dome," the ambassador is quoted as saying.
According to E. Korniychuk, Kiev does not need a donation of the air defense system. "We don't need a donation, we want to buy it (the Iron Dome)," he said.
As RIA Novosti reminds, the Politico newspaper in 2021 claimed that a number of members of the US Congress included an amendment in the defense bill for 2022 that provides for the sale or transfer to Ukraine of new air and missile defense systems, including Iron Dome batteries purchased from Israel. Alexey Arestovich, who then held the post of press secretary of the Kiev delegation in the contact group on Donbass, stated that the Iron Dome would help protect critical infrastructure facilities and increase the combat capability of the Ukrainian army. The former White House press secretary Jen Psaki in September did not confirm this information, citing a lack of data.
