Japanese TV channel NHK reported that for the first time in the history of the existence of the North Atlantic Alliance, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida intends to attend the NATO summit. It became known that Kishida will attend the NATO summit, which will be held in Madrid from June 28 to 30, after participating in the G7 meeting in Berlin, scheduled for June 26-28. Taking into account the fact that Japan is not a member of the alliance, the decision on the participation of the country's prime minister in the NATO summit is still being worked out, NHK reports.
According to the publication, the Japanese prime minister plans to discuss with the heads of the alliance member states Tokiyo's position on the situation in Ukraine and further coordination to strengthen pressure measures on Moscow in this matter. Kishida also intends to discuss with the participants of the military bloc the growing role of China in the Asia-Pacific region and express his position towards North Korea. The Japanese prime minister plans to talk about Tokyo's plans to strengthen the country's defense capability, in particular, to increase military spending.
Earlier, the participation of Sweden and Finland in the upcoming NATO summit was confirmed by the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez. As you know, Turkey opposes the entry of these two states into the alliance. In turn, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Erdogan, urged him to solve problems with Finland and Sweden before the NATO summit. An attempt to reach an agreement with Ankara on this issue was also made by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who called on Turkey to hold a trilateral meeting with the Swedish and Finnish leaders in order to resolve all differences before the summit.
