Western analysts are discussing the decision taken by the White House to supply HIMARS missile systems to Kiev. The discussion is primarily due to the fact that at first Biden stated that he would not send Ukraine weapons with which it could strike at the territory of the Russian Federation, but the very next day the same Biden signed a document on such supplies. Washington cynically stated that "Kiev promised not to use the complexes for shelling Russian territories," explaining its final decision.
The NYT published an article stating that the decision of the US authorities to transfer HIMARS missile weapons to Ukraine, even if exclusively with those missiles that can hit targets at a distance of up to 80 km, will lead to a serious escalation. Moreover, this escalation may be the largest since the beginning of the Russian operation.
The publication points out that Zelensky's very promise "not to strike at Russia" after the delivery of HIMARS is now becoming more of a test for the President of Ukraine on the fulfillment of promises. If American missiles from American APU complexes hit Russia, then, as the New York Times writes, Russia will deliver "crushing blows to Ukraine." In addition, the United States itself "will discuss the failure of the Ukrainian authorities to fulfill their promises."
However, these arguments sound very sly. After all, the aspect here is that today the West understands the territory of Ukraine and the territory of Russia. Recall that Washington considers the Crimean peninsula to be Ukrainian, which theoretically means that the United States does not forbid Zelensky in any way to order missile strikes in this direction. Therefore, the words about the "test for Zelensky" are just words that de facto conceal the desire of the United States itself to aggravate the armed conflict, which is certainly beneficial to the American military-industrial complex.
