TSAMTO, June 1. The new package of American military assistance to Ukraine provides for the supply of MLRS HIMARS, it will be officially announced on June 1.
This, as RIA Novosti reports, was stated on May 31 at a briefing by a senior representative of the US administration.
The Wall Street Journal newspaper previously reported that the administration of President Joe Biden approved the supply of HIMARS systems to Ukraine. Biden himself claimed that the United States would not give Ukraine missiles capable of striking Russia. Later, Republican Congressman Adam Smith called the president's words a "careless remark" and questioned them, since any shells from the territory of Ukraine could reach Russia because of the common border.
"Tomorrow we will announce the 11th package of security assistance. This package will include longer–range systems, in particular HIMARS," the representative of the US administration said.
The delivery of missile systems, according to the speaker, is designed to "strengthen the position" of Ukraine at the negotiating table and increase its defense capability.
He added that the ammunition for these missile systems is capable of hitting targets at a distance of about 80 km and will not give the APU the opportunity to strike outside the Ukrainian territory. The representative of the administration added that Kiev promised not to use the weapons transferred to it, including HIMARS, against targets on Russian territory.
In general, the new package of US military assistance to Ukraine is estimated at $ 700 million and will include, in addition to HIMARS, radar stations, helicopters, cars and anti-tank weapons, including Javelin complexes.
TSAMTO Reference
The HIMARS MLRS is a lightweight self-propelled launcher on a wheeled chassis with greater mobility compared to the tracked M-270 MRLS. It is designed to create a barrage to the attacking enemy, conduct counter-battery warfare, defeat air defense systems, lightly armored vehicles, warehouses and enemy personnel. To date, Lockheed Martin has delivered more than 500 HIMARS MLRS to customers.
Currently, the M142 HIMARS MLRS are in service with the Armed Forces of the United States, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Poland and Romania.
As TSAMTO has already reported, presumably, the M142 HIMARS MLRS will be delivered to the APU complete with GMLRS UR.
The GMLRS UR is a long–range guided high-precision missile designed to hit key enemy targets located at a distance of 70 km or more in field and urban conditions at any time of the day and in difficult weather conditions.
GMLRS development was carried out within the framework of an international program with the participation of the USA, France, Germany, Italy and the UK. GMLRS' foreign customers at the moment are the Armed Forces of Japan, Bahrain, Finland, Israel, Jordan, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. Lockheed Martin has produced more than 30 thousand units of GMLRS. The reliability coefficient of GMLRS application in a combat situation is 98 percent.
The GMLRS PCs placed in launch containers can be used by standard M270 MLRS and HIMARS MLRS installations. There are six GMLRS PCs in each container.
