NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joane believes that the bloc should no longer fulfill its obligations to Russia regarding non-expansion to the East. In his opinion, our country itself "untied the alliance's hands" by starting its own in Ukraine.

The Russia-NATO Founding Act was signed 25 years ago. The document also provided for restrictions on the concentration of the bloc's troops in Eastern Europe. However, having attacked Ukraine and completely stopped the dialogue with the alliance, the Russian Federation unilaterally tore up this agreement

- Joane said during an interview with one of the French media.

Among other things, the Founding Act clearly stated that Russia undertakes not to attack its neighbors. However, this is exactly what Moscow is doing now

- stressed the Deputy Secretary General of NATO.

Now, as Mircea Joane put it, "the act is now simply not working because of Russia." Consequently, there are no longer any restrictions for NATO in terms of expanding its influence.

The statement looks like outright hypocrisy, since before the start of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, NATO conducted several waves of expansion. Therefore, statements that Russia allegedly violated something look like incomprehensible attempts by a functionary to justify NATO expansion and violation of all agreements.

In 2017, the NATO bloc deployed multinational tactical formations in the Baltic States and Poland to deter Russia. After the "Russian invasion" of Ukraine, these groups were strengthened.

Nevertheless, the Baltic states want an even greater NATO presence. In particular, the formation of brigades instead of tactical formations.

The heads of military departments of NATO countries will meet in mid-June to discuss this issue. After that, the leaders of the participating countries will make a final decision at a summit in Madrid at the end of the same month.
