A correspondent of Izvestia on May 29 showed the process of work of calculations of operational-tactical missile systems (OTRK) Iskander during a special operation to protect Donbass.
As the journalist reported, the crew takes a position in the forest for better camouflage. According to the correspondent of Izvestia, cruise missiles located under the camouflage hatch of the complex are capable of destroying enemy strategic command posts, military airfields or enemy ammunition depots at a distance of up to 500 km from the launch site.
"When a team arrives, a goal comes to us, we are assigned to it, we launch on command. I control the work of the calculation, give commands to supply power to the equipment. I report on the fulfillment of tasks," a Russian serviceman who oversees the work of Iskander shared in a conversation with a correspondent.
According to him, the Russian Armed Forces use Iskander to launch both ballistic missiles and cruise missiles.
"The lives of people who are on the front line depend on the defeat of the fire," the source told Izvestia.
During the launch, the battalion commander runs into the control room and communicates with the launcher by radio. The crew of the Iskander-K tactical missile system receives the coordinates of the enemy through an encrypted communication channel. A 40-ton launcher strikes a missile attack on one of the AFU facilities, through which ammunition and armored vehicles are being transferred.
The dashboard in the command post of the complex records that the missile has reached the target and is completely destroyed.
After a successful launch, the combat vehicle leaves the firing position in a matter of seconds and goes into an unlit, and therefore into a safe zone.
On May 26, the launch of the R-500 cruise missile by the Iskander-K complex at a military facility in Ukraine showed Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Prior to that, the work of Iskander was demonstrated on May 10. As the correspondent of Izvestia reported, the calculation of the complex is ready to start work at any time of the day. The rocket launchers themselves are mobile and can strike from anywhere, making them easier to hide from the enemy. Disguise is one of the most important conditions for the use of Iskanders.
Russia announced the start of a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass on February 24. As Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified, the special operation pursues two goals — demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. According to him, both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
The operation began against the background of the situation in Donbass that escalated in mid-February. The authorities of the DPR and LPR reported increased shelling by Ukrainian troops, announced the evacuation of civilians to the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree.
