Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a federal law on the abolition of the upper age limit for the conclusion of the first contract for military service. The document was posted on Saturday, May 28, on the official portal of legal information.
The law came into force from the date of its publication, that is, it has already begun to operate on the territory of Russia.
What changes the law...
According to the legislation in force earlier, citizens aged from 18 to 40 years (for foreigners - from 18 to 30 years) were entitled to conclude the first contract for military service.
The document notes that the abolition of the age limit will contribute to "attracting specialists of sought-after specialties, primarily related to civilians (medical support, engineering, maintenance, operation, communications) to military service under a contract."
...and why is it needed
The law was prepared by deputies from United Russia - the head of the Defense Committee Andrey Kartapolov and his first deputy Andrey Krasov.
At the same time, practice has shown that they get the appropriate experience by the age of 40-45, the authors of the initiative emphasized.
As specified by the deputy head of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Nikolay Pankov, Russians and foreigners will be given the opportunity to conclude the first contracts for military service before they reach 50 years.
