Minsk. May 21. INTERFAX - Belarus has adjusted the scope of use of internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the conditions for the use of weapons and military equipment by military personnel.
The relevant amendments to the laws on the activities of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were published on Saturday on the National Legal Internet Portal.
In particular, the Belarusian internal troops can now be involved in the protection of the state border and territorial defense.
"The main tasks of the internal troops are (...) participation in measures to strengthen the protection of the State Border of the Republic of Belarus; participation in the territorial defense of the Republic of Belarus," the document says.
"In the event of circumstances that pose a threat to the security of citizens, the activities of organizations and public order, as well as in the interests of the defense of the Republic of Belarus, internal troops may be involved in other tasks in accordance with this Law and other legislative acts," the law says.
Servicemen of the internal troops are granted the right to carry and use weapons and military equipment, to study the situation in areas where tasks are performed, including using technical means.
"To use physical force, special means, combat and special equipment, to store, carry, use and use weapons in the cases and in the manner provided for by this Law and other legislative acts;" (...) "to study the situation in the areas where the tasks assigned to the internal troops are carried out, including using technical means," the law says.
Measures of protection of soldiers of internal troops and members of their families to whom state protection can be applied are being expanded. It is also prohibited to disseminate information about the deployment and movements of internal troops.
"In order to ensure the safety of military personnel, civilian personnel of the internal troops and their relatives, it is not allowed to disseminate information in a public speech, the media about the locations or about the relocation of formations or military units of the internal troops, about their participation in operations to ensure public security," the document says.
"If there is a threat of encroachment on the life, health and property of servicemen, civilian personnel of the internal troops in connection with the performance of their tasks assigned to the internal troops, as well as their relatives, in order to prevent the legitimate activities of servicemen, civilian personnel of the internal troops, state protection measures are applied in accordance with the legislation on state protection," - it is said in the law.
