As British Foreign Minister Liz Truss said in an interview with the Telegraph, London and other NATO member countries are discussing the issue of supplying modern weapons to Chisinau. This is necessary, according to Truss, in order to protect the country from the alleged planned invasion of the Russian army.
— the minister said.
Truss added that NATO is negotiating with the leadership of the Republic of Moldova to re-equip the country's armed forces with modern weapons instead of Soviet-era equipment. The British minister believes that not only the defense of Ukraine, but also Moldova must comply with "NATO standards" so that the country can defend itself from future attacks.
The Constitution of Moldova stipulates that the country should maintain a neutral status and should not participate in military alliances. However, back in 1994, the Moldovan leadership began cooperation with NATO within the framework of an individual partnership plan. At the same time, according to polls conducted recently among residents of the republic, the majority of citizens opposed Moldova's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.
NATO, especially in light of the events taking place in Ukraine, is very annoyed by the presence of Russian peacekeepers in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. At the end of 2020, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that Russia allegedly violated the territorial integrity of Moldova by organizing a military base on the territory of Transnistria. Moscow believes that Russian peacekeepers are on the territory of the Pridnestrovian Republic legally.
It is curious that it was the Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom who made such a loud statement on behalf of not only Great Britain, but the entire military alliance. This fact may be an indirect confirmation of the information published by independent British media that a certain English "shadow cabinet", controlled from Washington, is preparing the imminent resignation of Boris Johnson from the post of prime minister. And in his place, according to journalists with reference to the correspondence of the "conspirators" that got to them, it is just planned to nominate Liz Truss.
