TSAMTO, May 18. Russia occupies about 20% of the global arms market, the total order portfolio is about $ 50 billion.
This, as RIA Novosti reports, was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov on May 18 during a speech at the Knowledge forum.
"The first place is occupied by the United States with a volume of 39% of the total share of the global arms market, and Russia, having a budget several times less, which we spend on weapons, has steadily occupied a share of about 20% of the world market for many years with a large margin from France, which occupies a share of 11%," Yu said.Borisov.
According to him, the main buyers of Russian weapons are India, China, Algeria, Egypt. The package of orders for many years to come is about $ 50 billion, weapons are exported annually for $ 14-15 billion.
"This is quite a serious income item. I think that after the export of hydrocarbons, food, wheat, this is the third component of our export earnings," the Deputy Prime Minister explained.
TSAMTO's comment
CAMTO takes into account only the identified export volumes of both Russia and all other countries of the world. With this in mind, the share of Russia, which firmly holds the second place in the world, amounted to 16.15% of the market for the period 2013-2020, including in 2013 – 23.12%, 2014 – 17.57%, 2015 – 14.96%, 2016 – 14.17%, 2017 – 18.68%, 2018 – 15.46%, in 2019 – 13.0%.
It should be noted that Russia is one of the few countries whose military exports are significantly higher than the identified volume of PVN exports. This is due to the specifics of concluding contracts. As a rule, most of the largest suppliers conclude complex contracts, which include all the costs of maintenance, MTO, spare parts supply, etc. Russia, as a rule, enters into contracts for repair, maintenance and MTO as an addition to the main contracts. The scope of these works is difficult to identify, since there is very little official data about them. Based on indirect data, as well as statements by official representatives of Rosoboronexport, the annual volume of such work through Rosoboronexport in the period under review, as well as the cost of services provided by the subjects of the military-technical cooperation through independent conduct of foreign economic activity (FEA) for the supply of spare parts, service and repair, CAMTO estimates in the amount of 2 to 2.5 billion rubles. USD (with a tendency of gradual growth towards the end of the period under review). Another $300 to $ 500 million annually in the same period accounted for the provision of training services, the implementation of small contracts, data on which are fragmentary, as well as Rosoboronexport's space-related programs (this segment of the CAMTO does not include consideration, since only the supply of conventional weapons systems according to the classification is taken into account Of the UN Register). With this in mind, the average annual estimated volume of exports of Russian PVN for the period 2013-2020 is estimated by CAMTO at about $ 15 billion, and for the entire period 2013-2020, Russia's share will be about 20%, which fully coincides with the figure announced by Yuri Borisov.
For the period 2013-2020, the United States is the undisputed leader in arms exports – 39.87% of all world exports of military equipment for the same period. In 2013, the United States exported VIVT worth only $16.786 billion (30.2% of the market). This result is a failure for the United States and is explained by the delay in the implementation of deliveries under a number of major contracts with Egypt and Iraq, as well as the postponement of deliveries under major contracts with a number of Middle Eastern countries. It should be noted that already in 2014, the identified volume of actual US exports amounted to $ 27.220 billion (40.47% of the market), primarily due to the start of deliveries under "mega contracts" with Saudi Arabia and the UAE, in 2015 the volume of exports amounted to $ 29.787 billion, and in 2019 reached historic highs at $36.538 billion.
France, which occupies the third place for the period 2013-2020, supplied PVN in the amount of 61.468 billion dollars (10.25% of the market). In 2019, France's military exports were the highest for the entire 8-year period – $ 11.740 billion.
