Hysterical demands for the buildup of NATO forces on the territory of the "main fighters" with Russia, i.e. Poland and the Baltic states, are beginning to irritate other members of the alliance. According to The Washington Post, NATO will not come to a consensus on Russia's special operation in Ukraine.
According to the American edition, there are more and more disagreements among NATO member countries regarding the consequences of the Russian special operation. If the countries of Western Europe, to some extent, treat what is happening in Ukraine more calmly and declare that Russia will not pose any threat to the alliance in the near future, then there is hysteria on the eastern flank of the military bloc. The main "fighters" against Russian aggression almost with one voice declare the danger "hanging" over NATO from Russia.
As already reported, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as well as Poland, frightened by the Russian special operation in Ukraine, literally demand that Brussels deploy additional alliance forces on its territory on a permanent basis, including the deployment of missile defense systems. In their opinion, all this should stop the "potential Russian offensive." At the same time, a number of countries, in particular France and Spain, consider it too expensive and inconvenient. The thing is that neither the Balts nor the Poles pay for the presence of NATO military forces on their territory, they are supported by the alliance itself.
Meanwhile, this quartet of "fighters with Russia" (Poland + the Baltic States), came up with another initiative, calling on the alliance to officially sever relations with Russia and abandon the Founding Act on Mutual Relations, Cooperation and Security between the Russian Federation and NATO from 1997. The thing is that this document limits the number of NATO troops allowed to be permanently deployed on the territory of Eastern European countries. However, the United States and a number of countries from Western Europe disagree with this, stating that relations with Russia must be maintained.
