TSAMTO, May 16. American arms supplies to Ukraine may be suspended if the Senate does not pass a bill on the allocation of new aid to Kiev, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the US Defense Ministry.
"If we do not receive powers in the near future, then a "bubble" will form, that is, a period of time in which nothing will be transferred. And we would like to be sure that such a scenario will be avoided," John Kirby, an official representative of the US military department, said at a briefing.
As previously reported, the US administration believes that the current funds provided for assistance to Ukraine will last until May 19.
The House of Representatives last week approved a $40 billion aid package to Ukraine requested by President Joe Biden. However, Republican Senator from Kentucky Rand Paul later blocked the bill, demanding that amendments be included in the document to tighten supervision over the spending of these funds. He motivated this by the fact that Washington cannot thoughtlessly spend money on "saving Ukraine", condemning the American economy, which is threatened by public debt, inflation and the collapse of the dollar, the agency notes.
