Daily Express: three Britons may be on Azovstal in Mariupol
There may be three Britons on the territory of Azovstal in Mariupol, the Daily Express newspaper claims with reference to their colleague. He told the publication that he and his friends were sent to different parts of the country shortly after they arrived in Ukraine. For more information, see the material "Newspapers.Ru".
Three British citizens who went to Ukraine shortly before the start of a specially military operation of the Russian Federation may be on the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. This was written on Sunday, May 15, by the newspaper Daily Express .
The publication refers to a British volunteer who was wounded during the fighting in the Donetsk region and was taken to Lviv for treatment. He claims that all four previously served in the British Armed Forces and allegedly went to Ukraine together.
"Three guys who are at the metallurgical plant served in the British army. I know that two of them served in Afghanistan," the source told the publication.
He added that he and his friends were sent to different parts of the country shortly after they arrived in Ukraine. According to him, the last time he received text messages from them was in April, when they complained about the difficult conditions at Azovstal and the lack of ammunition.
The situation at Azovstal
Against this background, the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Jabarov, warned Turkey against "helping the militants" at Azovstal.
Earlier, the official representative and chief adviser to the President of Turkey, Ibrahim Kalyn, said that his country was ready to evacuate the wounded from the Azovstal metallurgical plant in Mariupol by sea. He noted that the evacuees will leave the territory of the plant and will be taken to the port of Berdyansk, from where they will be transported by ship to Istanbul. According to him, Moscow did not agree to these conditions.
"Turkey has not accepted any anti-Russian sanctions. Turkey is ready to receive Russian citizens during the summer holidays. It is one of our main partners in the Middle East. I believe that Turkey should not interfere in the issue of Azovstal and spoil its reputation.
Well, they sold Bayraktary drones to Ukraine. We have turned a blind eye to this, although we do not exclude that Turkey continues to supply them. But I don't see any interference here yet," Jabarov said in an interview with the portal Ura.ru . The senator also claims that there are no civilians on Azovstal anymore. "The militants need to throw out a white flag, and we will take those who are wounded to the hospital. And those who are not injured and try to slip out will be taken to the pre-trial detention center to begin investigative actions. I think that this issue concerns Russia exclusively," the parliamentarian added.
In turn, the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov appealed to the Turkish president not to facilitate the evacuation of wounded soldiers from the territory of Azovstal. In particular, he claims that the members of the Azov battalion are allegedly known for regular statements insulting "great Islamic values and ridiculing the religion of Islam in general."
"I appeal to Turkish President Recep Erdogan: do not let yourself be deceived by criminals who want to avoid trial and deserved punishment with your help," Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram channel.
Russia has been conducting a military special operation in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. On April 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, called the storming of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol inappropriate and ordered it to be canceled, instructing the military to block the industrial zone. On May 4, Shoigu informed that the remnants of the Ukrainian military group are securely blocked along the entire perimeter of Azovstal, and the Russian Armed Forces continue to try to convince them to lay down their arms and release civilians.
