Moscow. May 7. INTERFAX - The Presidium of the Scientific and Technical Council of Roscosmos will discuss with the Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Space the option of the inclination of the orbit of the Russian Orbital Service Station (ROSS) on May 26, the head of the state corporation Dmitry Rogozin said.
"On May 26, we are holding a meeting of the Presidium of the Scientific and Technical Council of Roscosmos together with the Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences for Space to discuss the first stage of the preliminary design and, above all, the choice of the inclination of the station's orbit," Rogozin said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel (VGTRK).
"Or it will be a high-latitude station that passes all points of the globe every two days and is over the Arctic every hour and a half. Or it will be a station that will keep its work at the inclination where the ISS is now, by separating the Russian segment," Rogozin said.
Russia, as reported, has decided to build its own orbital station, an exit from the International Space Station (ISS) project is being considered, and this is due to the deterioration of the technical condition of the Russian segment of the station.
In addition, against the background of the aggravation of Russian-American relations due to the situation in Ukraine, Rogozin said that further cooperation on the ISS is possible only if sanctions are lifted from the Russian space industry. On April 2, Rogozin said that the state corporation would prepare its proposals to the country's leadership on the timing of the termination of Russia's participation in the ISS project.
Rogozin reported that about 80% of the equipment of the Russian segment of the ISS has exhausted its resource and the cost of its maintenance after 2025 will be comparable to the cost of creating a new station.
On December 30, 2021, Roscosmos reported that the new Russian orbital service station should be in a high-latitude orbit with an inclination of 97-98 degrees.
On August 23, 2021, Rogozin told Interfax that the decision to include the modules of the Russian segment of the ISS in the new station will be made after the development of a preliminary design.
On November 17, 2021, the executive director of Roscosmos for promising projects and science, Alexander Bloshenko, told Interfax that the state corporation doubts the feasibility of creating a new station based on the existing Russian segment of the ISS, but experts should give an exact answer.
According to him, the development of the draft design of the new Russian orbital station will begin in 2022, it will take about a year and a half.
On July 31, the Scientific and Technical Council of Roscosmos approved the creation of a new Russian orbital station.
