TSAMTO, May 6. According to the Finnish Defense Ministry in a press release published on May 5, Finland will send additional military assistance to Ukraine.
The military department stated that the exact composition of the aid, the method and schedule of delivery will remain secret in order to ensure the safe delivery of goods to their destination. According to the authorities, the additional assistance takes into account both the needs of Ukraine and the current capabilities of the Finnish Armed Forces.
As Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen pointed out, Finland supported Ukraine in many ways, including with defense equipment. Now Ukraine is in dire need of additional military assistance, and Finland will increase its volume.
Ukraine has repeatedly requested additional assistance from both the European Union and NATO member states after the start of the special operation on February 24.
In February, Finland pledged for the first time to send military aid to Ukraine, namely 2,000 bulletproof vests, 2,000 composite helmets, 100 stretchers and equipment for two ambulance stations. A little later, it was decided to provide additional military assistance in the form of 2,500 units of 5.65 mm assault rifles, 150,000 rounds of ammunition, 1,500 anti-tank grenade launchers and 70,000 dry rations.
On April 19, Finnish President Sauli Niinisto decided to send additional military aid to Ukraine without disclosing its contents.
In addition, during the European donor conference on assistance to Ukraine organized by Poland and Sweden in Warsaw on May 5, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin announced the allocation of 70 million euros for these purposes. In total, $6.5 billion was raised for Ukraine as part of the donor conference.
