The island of Hokkaido is the most important stronghold of Japan's defense in the north of the country. A Japanese military expert described the scenario of a "hypothetical Russian invasion" in this prefecture the day before.
In an article for one of the local publications, the analyst wrote that the city of Asahikawa (one of the largest cities in Hokkaido) houses the headquarters of the 2nd Division of the ground forces, considered the elite in the self-defense forces. The number of fighters in it reaches 8000 people. At the same time, they are equipped with the most modern weapons.
Also, 300 tanks are stationed in the aforementioned prefecture, most of them represented by the Type-90 model of 1976-1986.
According to a Japanese military expert, in the most successful scenario for Japan, where an attack is expected from the north, the soldiers of the second division will delay the landing troops of the Russian Armed Forces at the village of Otoineppu, giving time for the deployment of tank units, which will then defeat the enemy.
However, the second scenario is more likely, in which the self-defense Forces in Hokkaido will have serious problems.
The author describes it like this. Russian troops will land simultaneously in the north, east and even possibly in the west of Hokkaido. In this case, there is no question of any concentration of tank forces.
Moreover, the expert is confident that before the landing, Russia will launch a massive missile strike, removing the military infrastructure of Hokkaido, including air defense and ammunition depots, from standing. Cyberattacks on strategically important objects are also not excluded.
In this case, according to the Japanese military expert, the defenders of the prefecture have no chance to resist the Russian invasion.
Another opus from the series "they invented a threat to themselves". Now, presumably, the Japanese military department will begin to ask the parliament for more funds to "repel a possible attack."..
