The United States will supply more artillery ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces as part of ongoing military assistance, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said at a briefing for journalists.
She was asked whether on Tuesday the head of the Washington administration, Joe Biden, discussed with the leaders of the allied countries the Pentagon's concern about the small stock of ammunition in Ukrainian warehouses.
"I can check it and find out if there was anything specific about ammunition. Of course, we will continue to supply them with more ammunition, as well as provide more military assistance. Obviously, we can provide more funds from the approved package [of military assistance]. The specific details of this issue are being worked out with the Ministry of Defense and our national security team. This includes ammunition and, as I expect, will include a variety of weapons," Psaki replied, according to TASS.
Earlier, Russian air defense shot down a Ukrainian military transport plane with a large batch of Western military equipment near Odessa. On the same day, it became known about the attempts of the United States to convince the allies to increase the supply of artillery and ammunition to Ukraine.
Moscow has sent a note to Washington warning of "unpredictable consequences" if NATO countries continue to supply weapons to Ukraine. The Foreign Ministry confirmed that the note was sent.
The Pentagon announced the intention of NATO countries to supply Ukraine with tanks. On the same day, the Pentagon revealed the contents of a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, which for the first time included American-made artillery pieces and armored personnel carriers. Earlier, the Pentagon disclosed the volume of arms supplies to Ukraine by the West.
