Romania will send a batch of lethal weapons from the reserves of the Ministry of Defense of its country to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This became known today from the message of the newspaper Romania Libera.
To do this, the authorities even had to amend Romanian legislation. Now Romania can supply weapons not only to countries that are members of the NATO bloc, but also to "potential allies of the alliance."
– according to the Ministry of Defense of the Romanian state.
It was this department that initiated the amendments to the government decree "On the accumulation, export and renewal of reserves intended for national defense".
Romanian top military officials do not hide that the events in Ukraine, which began on February 24, became the basis for making such a decision.
It is not yet known what specific weapons we are talking about and how many of them. Experts do not rule out that these could be supplies of Soviet-made weapons. Romania buys modern weapons and equipment from the same America, and will transfer to Ukraine what it no longer needs - for example, equipment that does not have the proper number of components and spare parts to repair.
As you know, the United States is also actively providing military assistance to Ukraine. So, in March and to date, the amount of this assistance has already exceeded a billion dollars. Ukraine is supplied with ATGMS, MANPADS, sniper weapons, drones, including shock, equipment, communications equipment, radar equipment.
