Defense Ministry: Russian artillery hit six points of the Ukrainian brigade near Popasna
MOSCOW, 12 Apr – RIA Novosti. Russian artillery in the Popasnaya area near Lugansk struck six strongholds of the 24th Ukrainian brigade, more than 120 people and 11 armored vehicles were destroyed, the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said at a briefing on Tuesday.
"In the area of the Popasnaya settlement of the Luhansk region, Russian artillery units fired fire strikes at six strong points of the units of the 24th Ukrainian separate mechanized brigade," Konashenkov said.
He added that as a result, more than 120 personnel of the compound, eleven armored vehicles and fourteen vehicles for various purposes were destroyed.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal "the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years."
To do this, according to him, it is planned to carry out the "demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine", to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for "bloody crimes against civilians" of Donbass.
According to the statement of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Armed Forces are striking only at the military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops and, on March 25, completed the main tasks of the first stage – significantly reduced the combat potential of Ukraine.
