Moscow. April 11. INTERFAX-AVN - The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said that a strike of Kalibr cruise missiles on the outskirts of Dnepropetrovsk destroyed a division of S-300 air defense systems, which was delivered to Ukraine from Europe.
"On Sunday, April 10, high-precision sea-based Kalibr missiles on the southern outskirts of the city of Dnepropetrovsk destroyed the equipment of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile division hidden in a hangar," Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Monday.
"Four S-300 launchers and up to 25 personnel of the Ukrainian armed forces were also hit," he said.
Konashenkov said that Ukraine received these S-300s from "one of the European countries."
The Russian Defense Ministry did not say from which country Ukraine received the S-300.
On March 29, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Moscow would react if any of the NATO countries supplied Ukraine with combat aircraft and air defense systems. "We are monitoring the statements of the leaders of individual NATO countries about their intention to supply aircraft and air defense systems to Ukraine. If they are implemented, we will react adequately," Shoigu said that day.
On March 29, Shoigu said that "the air force and the air defense system of Ukraine have been practically destroyed."
On April 10, Konashenkov reported the destruction of Ukrainian S-300 systems in the Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions.
Last week, the Slovak authorities announced that they had transferred the S-300 system to Ukraine.
The United States will transfer anti-aircraft missile systems to Slovakia to replace the S-300 system that was sent to Ukraine, US President Joe Biden said last Friday.
S-300 is a long-range air defense system created in the USSR in the 1970s, several modifications have been developed on its basis, which are still in service with both Russian and foreign armed forces.
