TSAMTO, April 11. The UK will send Ukraine weapons worth 100 million pounds, including portable anti-aircraft missile systems Starstreak.
This, as RIA Novosti reports, was announced on April 8 by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
"Today I can announce that the UK will additionally send high–quality military equipment worth 100 million pounds to the armed forces of Ukraine, including the Starstreak air defense system, 300 anti-tank missiles and precision-guided munitions," Johnson said at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
He added that the UK will also send helmets, night vision devices and body armor to Ukraine.
Since 2015, the UK has trained more than 22,000 military personnel as part of Operation Orbital and the British-led naval training initiative. Support was strengthened in 2021, when the United Kingdom and Ukraine signed a bilateral agreement, according to which 1.7 billion pounds were allocated to support the program to increase the naval potential of Ukraine, the agency recalls.
TSAMTO Reference
The Starstreak short-range air defense systems have been in service with the British Armed Forces since 1997, and have been exported to several countries, including Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Developed by Thales, the 14-kg Starstreak rocket is equipped with a solid-fuel launch accelerator, a two-stage solid-fuel main engine and an original warhead with three swept striking elements of individual guidance with its own high-explosive warhead. The missile is capable of reaching speeds of up to 3M, hitting targets at ranges of 1.5-7 km and altitudes up to 5 km. Guidance is carried out by a laser beam, which complicates the use of countermeasures.
In the basic version, an LML (Lightweight Multiple Launcher) light launcher with three missiles is used to launch the missiles, each of which is placed in a sealed transport and launch container. The advanced LML-NG PU is placed on a rotary machine, equipped with a aiming unit and two missiles in the TPC.
