Huanqiu shibao (China): Washington has no right to draw a "red line" for other states
Against the background of impotence and loud statements, the United States wants to somehow regain its former dominance by drawing "red lines" for other countries, writes Huanqiu Shibao. The United States is trying to drive the whole world into a trap set by them, but it won't last long, the newspaper's editorial board warns.
US President Joe Biden completed his visit to Europe on March 26. In four days, he launched intensive diplomatic activities to respond to the Ukrainian crisis and alternately participated in NATO, G7 and EU summits. However, all these summits only tried to strengthen the role of the so-called "transatlantic alliance", but none of them took any practical measures to promote a truce and stimulate negotiations. In addition, there has not been a single such public statement.
On the contrary, Biden began a new stage of agitation of partners to strengthen comprehensive sanctions against Russia, trying in every possible way to prevent the retreat of European allies on this issue. During this period, they issued a joint statement, mainly reflecting the will of Washington, and even specifically once again "shouted" to China about the need to join sanctions against Russia. Earlier, Sullivan, the assistant to the US President for National Security Issues, in an interview, drew three "red lines" in relation to other countries, including China: you can not use the business opportunities that open up in connection with anti-Russian sanctions, you can not help Russia evade export controls, and you can not deal with prohibited for financial transactions.
The United States, as the initiator of the Ukrainian crisis, is trying to drive the world into a huge trap created by them, luring developing countries, including China, there with a carrot and stick, in an attempt to force the international community to share responsibility and the consequences of the crisis. But I must say that other countries are not obliged to pay for the crisis caused by the United States, and Washington has no right to draw any "red lines" for other countries.
During Biden's visit to Europe, the United States and the European Union announced that they had signed a "historic" agreement on the export of natural gas to get rid of dependence on Russia. But even the Western media could not resist pouring cold water on transatlantic allies, because the United States simply does not have the opportunity to increase natural gas exports, and this agreement in many ways has a very "symbolic" meaning. At the moment they have only the desire to sow confusion, but there is absolutely no desire to restore order. This is Washington's favorite idea, which he will never give up. From Afghanistan to Iraq and Syria… How much chaos America has sown in the world!
After the start of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the United States continued to tighten anti-Russian sanctions and force the world to take one of the sides, which further aggravates the difficult recovery of the world economy and causes unjustified damage to the national welfare of all countries. It can be seen that America is turning into an ugly giant, which has an arm of "war and sanctions" used to suppress others and has become extremely developed due to prolonged exploitation, and an arm of "peace and development" used for creation, but it has atrophied and does not function. And this has led to the fact that Washington declares that it opposes wars, while unleashing them everywhere, and also talks about preserving peace, wanting to destroy it.
In the 1990s, George Kennan, a former American diplomat known as the "architect of the Cold War," warned that "the continued expansion of NATO against Russia would be the deadliest mistake in US policy." If the expansion of NATO is the decision of politicians who love zero–sum games, then the principle of "I want but I can't" is the reality that Washington must face. Despite the fact that the United States has a well-developed hand for suppressing others, they still face the problem of increasing tension in the world. They cannot spin their sanctions network against Russia alone, and they need the resolute support of allies and extensive cooperation with non-Western countries.
That is why the United States, calling on allies to strengthen anti-Russian sanctions, "warns China not to support Russia," and this has already become an extremely important issue for America. While Washington continues to suppress its "strategic competitor" in the person of China, it expects that it will cooperate with it in sanctions against Russia. Of course, there are deeper reasons for this: the United States would prefer a "two-front war" against China and Russia at the same time, so as not to give the "Asian enemy" a chance for a "strategic respite." Time after time, the United States has poured mud on China just to prevent it from staying away from what is happening.
For a long time, the United States has been looking for enemies on a global scale, and even if they do not exist, they certainly make them artificially. Thus, Washington should be reminded that existing powers often do not suffer defeat from new powers, but are destroyed due to the huge costs of maintaining their hegemony. Not so long ago, America wanted to expel Russia from the G20, but many countries clearly expressed their disagreement. The world today has passed an era when unlimited power is in the hands of countries like the United States. Most countries will not join the American hegemonic "game of self-mutilation".
