Long range shooting with TARAC C

1MOA GmbH, a German trading partner of the American manufacturer Tacom HQ, planned to present the Tarac C optical device designed for high-precision long-range shooting at the Enforce TAC 2022 exhibition for the first time in Europe. According to the executive director of 1MOA GmbH, Michael Gast, Tarac C was developed by the founder of Tacom HQ, John Baker, to provide accurate shots at a range of 2500 m or more.

According to the product description, Tarac C is a sighting prism that interrupts the line of sight of the optics at the right angle. The latter allows accurate shots to be fired at long range, which otherwise would be limited by the adjustments of standard sighting optics.

According to 1MOA, despite a very large range of adjustments, modern sniper optics very quickly reaches the limit of its capabilities at ranges over 2000 m. The old systems used in the armed forces for decades have a lower effective combat range, often not because they face the limitations of ammunition or the skill of the shooter. Rather, the aiming process itself has a limiting effect, since the range of optics adjustments at these ranges is no longer sufficient to take into account all the factors of external ballistics. In this case, the shooters would have to clearly "take above the target" in order to hit it at all. As a result, an accurate hit on the target becomes impossible for technical reasons - even if the skill of the shooter in combination with the size of the target and the ballistic characteristics of the cartridge theoretically allow it. So, ammunition commonly used in the so-called "antimaterial rifles" (Western caliber.50 or distributed in the east 14.5 mm × 114), still have sufficient energy to achieve an adequate impact on the target far beyond 2000 m.

When using TARAC C as a nozzle to the existing optics, an additional range of adjustments is created due to the optical break of the aiming line, which also allows experienced shooters to use the theoretical capabilities of the caliber in practice. The company notes that in this way it is possible to set a range record of 7,000 yards, which is equivalent to about 6,400 m.

"This circumstance makes the technology especially interesting for heavy sniper weapons, since here optics often limits the maximum range of its use," says M. Gast. In particular, it is quite simple and inexpensive to increase the combat value of the G82 rifle, which has been in service with the Bundeswehr for years. The same technology is proposed to be used in combination with automatic grenade launchers, which have a particularly steep ballistic curve.

The company also announced that at the Enforce TAC exhibition in Nuremberg, it will demonstrate two additional nozzles, Tarac A and Tarac B. Tarac A is designed for use on assault rifles and, according to M. Gast, provides an effective firing range of up to 600 m in combination with a simple collimator sight. Since red dot sights are usually configured for combat ranges from 50 to 100 m, in the case of long-range shooting without Tarac A, the shooter would have to aim several "heads" above the target to hit it. When the Tarac A nozzle is installed, the line of sight is interrupted in such a way that the shooter can accurately aim with a red dot and for long-range shooting.
